The fan on my generic power supply was noisy so I've replaced it with

get it to boot up. My mainboard is an Asrock K7S41GX. Anyone know
what the problem might be? Thanks.

Check you have the CPU +12V 4 Way connector plugged in somewhere near the CPU.

Its a square connector & will have 4 wires (2 yellow / 2 black).

The K7S41GX is a (relatively) old M/B (old style Sempron etc) and only uses the 20pin power connector.

I assume you have done the obvious - reseat memory, check all connectors and tried GSVs suggestions.

Does the CPU fan spin/jitter when the PSU is turned on? (I seem to remember this happening with the 50 odd systems I used to look after).

Were you having problems with the time keeping before? A low battery can cause this problem. You could try without the battery, if all else fails.
