My customer has an HP dx6100M which has recently been moved to a new
acoustic environment (new desk/workstation). The fan speed rises and
falls with CPU usage (not temperature) and it's quite noisy now - the
wailing noises are driving them nuts. I presume there must be some way to
get the fan to chug along at a constant speed (I'd install an additional
quiet fan as a precaution). Any advice?

I have this on a HP dc5000 system im just re-setting up - in the bios was a
setting from 1 to 4 which immediately increased or decreased the fan on the
selection you chose. I left it at 1 but the fan does rise depending on what
the pc is doing at the time - annoying.
