All available AGP 8X cards are supposed to be backwards compatible with
AGP 4X slots. Doesn't always work though, probably due to motherboard
manufacturers not following the specs.

I've been using a Matrox Parhelia AGP card in my 4X capable system with no
problems at all. While I forget the drawbacks I do remember something about
the 3.3V lines not working (limitations of the Motherboard) but
fundamentally still allowed the card to work.
