Is the partition marked as active? You might be able to do something
booting into the XP recovery console and trying fixboot and fixmbr (I
think those were the commands since they moved them out of fdisk) seems
fdisk is no longer there, that could have been used to mark a partition
active.

If not try putting the disk into another PC and use the disk manager on
there to mark it as active.

I agree. The error message is because it can't find a partition that's
been flagged as bootable.
