How about going the AM2 route?

Could get a AM2 - mATX mobo, Athlon 64 X2 3600+, 1GB DDR2 Ram and POW
Geforce 7600GS for just under £150.

You could always buy a cheaper CPU, e.g (sempron) and put the extra
into a faster graphics card.

That system only has 1GB of RAM which removes £ 41.46 for the system I
specced for £ 160 which could be put towards the 7300 the OP wants so
badly if he can sacrifice 1GB like you suggest. The system I specced
will be much more powerfull once you unleash its overclocking
potential. He could just re-use his 6200 with the system I specced
for awhile see how it feels if he decides he *needs* a graphics
upgrade then save up for something a bit better then a 7300 and he'll
have 2GB ram... if he can get by with 1GB by all means deduct £ 41.46
from £ 160 = £ 118.54. If you decide to get a 7600GS like Seb
suggests then they can be had for £ 46.44 here
http://tinyurl.com/2kq2ae add that onto your 1GB system = £ 164.98
better then going the AMD AM2 route (think of the overclocking
potential). I`m not sure what is better 6600GT, 6800 Non Ultra,
7600GS or 7600GT... but I think the 7600GT is best get PCI-E one on
eBay for £ 50 perhaps.

I don't want it "so badly" - i know i'm just swapping a cheap AGP card for a
vanilla PCI-E, i'm just thinking a PCI-E would be more future proof... the
6200 really needs to be replaced so i should do it now rather than limit
myself to AGP for another year or so... it seems there are more PCI-E cards
available now than AGP, and the latter is becoming more expensive.

I'll be happy with 1GB - especially if i can get a single gig stick leaving
space for another later. Presumably, without looking, a single stick will be
around £25, giving me a little more for the video.

I now have a friend who's 7800GTS AGP has died - he wants me to build
another PC for him, with a similar budget, so i'm now looking to build two
systems of similar spec and price.

His vice is X3, which is a *lot* more graphics intensive.

A couple more questions... i appreciate all the helpful replies i've had...

I don't really trust his PSU, and mine only has 20pin ATX plug.

Do the motherboards come with a 24-20pin adaptor, or do i need to get this
seperately?

What PSU will i need for a system of this spec? Can anyone recommend
something suitable?

I'll be running a couple of PATA drives in mine and one optical... no fancy
PCI cards, just a SB Live! for the Numark mixer.

I am not interested in overclocking - i use the PC solely for basic web
design, email & browsing, WoW and MP3 mixing... it works fine for all my
requirements except WoW and, as you have said, Nick, WoW is more cpu/memory
intensive than graphics.

I really dont wanna go over £160 all in... £200 is too much, i'd prefer a
lower specced upgrade around £100 to be honest as i'm confident all i really
need is a bit more memory to get WoW running... but SDRAM is silly money
when i only have 2 slots.

Thanks for all the replies - please keep them coming, i'm hoping to go
shopping tomorrow!
