I forgot to mention that the PC turns itself off once it fails to
POST. But I don't suppose that makes much difference... I've plugged
in CPU and system fans so it shouldn't be shutting down because it
can't detect them.
I could probably pop the drives into another computer to get at the
raw files too, but in some cases it would be preferable to be able to
open up the original application and export the data in a more useful
format. I'm not sure what would happen if I made this machine's
bootable hard drive the bootable hard drive for another machine (apart
from Windows demanding reactivation...)
I've now tried: another PSU; running the motherboard outside the case;
and resetting CMOS (by removing the battery). None of that helped.
So, I guess it's going to be a case of pulling off the raw files.
But more suggestions still more than welcome...
