Do you have SATA drivers for ME? I don't know of any maufacturer that
supports SATA on any of the Win9x series (of which ME was the latest and
crappiest).
Without drivers, your system will probably work, but it will use the BIOS's
real-mode emulation to access the hard drives, and will run like a dog.
As for XP being "new-fangled" ... XP has its roots in Windows NT 3.1 which
was released in about 1992, if my memory serves me aright, while WinME has
its roots in Windows 95 (although that, in turn, sits on top of MS-DOS from
about 1981). Which, if any, of these can be called "new-fangled" is moot ...
but it's pretty clear which is past its sell-by date.
Yes, by all means use WinME (or better still: Win98 or Win95 OSR2.5) but
don't expect it to work at all well on modern harware.
