I have now gone through four DVD without any success. The burner goes
through
the following step:
1. Writing to cache
2. Checking write speed
3. Simulation
4. Writing
5. Verification (failed)
The speed check just misses 8x speed, so it is set to 4x speed. Hard
drive
was defragged before writing. It did actually burn one DVD
successfully,
but
the next four all failed!
& the software you're attempting to write these DVD's is..... ?
It is Nero which came with the Phillips DVD. It sometimes works, though
in the beginning with about 50% success, but now this has gone down to
almost 0%. I'm really thinking of scrapping it and cut my losses. It's
out of warranty, but has been very little used.
A lot of people find Nero 7 problematic and many go back to V6.
It is Nero 6 SE . Nero user interface is somewhat a pain, but you get
used to it.
Early Philips drives were poor although recently they joined forces with
BenQ and now their drives seem ok.
Most of the files on the DVD are OK, probably over 99%, but this is still not
good enough if you don't know which file fails the verification. Anything
which doesn't verify 100% goes into the shredder.
At first I thought that it was the size of the burn and tried to cut it down
from 3.7GB to about 2.7GB, but same result. Since it appears to have
deteriorated over time, I don't see how driver could make a difference.
