Trying to help neighbour set up a Sky internet connection via a BT
line with a wireless ADSL modem. She has quite an old laptop that does
not have a LAN port that fits an RJ45 socket but does have a usb port.
I have a cable here that is usb on one end and RJ45 on the other will
this do the trick? She is certain that the previous owner used it on
broadband and indeed I found a prog on the comp that seems to support
this.
I assume that you want to connect to an Ethernet RJ45 port on the Sky ADSL router
If the laptop does not have an RJ45 ethernet port you could likely get a PCMCIA card cheaply from ebay.
If you have a cable with USB A plug on one end and an RJ45 plug on the other end, my guess is that it was a special cable intended for use with a USB ADSL modem.
