I have been asked to set up a display using three monitors, possibly running three different presentations (likely to be PowerPoint).

I've used two monitors from one machine - I recently gave a presentation myself when I used PowerPoint's "presenter" view on my laptop with the slideshow filling the projector screen, and all I had to do was to set the appropriate options in the display settings.

Is there any way to extend this to three? I'm thinking of a simple workstation with three graphics cards, configured to route a separate slideshow to each screen. Is Windows likely to be the obstacle? (the machine will have to be running XP or Vista for other reasons.)

What if the requirement "softened" so that one of the screens could be a duplicate of another (this is quite likely to be acceptable, given the situation?

Any advice received with grateful thanks!

If your machine is a recent one with no AGP slot, you cannot use a triple-head Matrox Parhelia. You're best off getting a recent dual-head PCIe Radeon/GeForce card as well as a PCI dual-head card like a Matrox G450 PCI, from eBay. If you are to use Vista, you should make sure that there are drivers for the PCI card.

Ultramon might be of use to you as well: www.ultramon.com

You might want to check out the specs of other systems in the gallery to get more ideas:

Oh, and if you are using Vista, mixing in older PCI cards would mean you cannot use the Aero glass interface.

And if you have a new motherboard with two 16x PCIe slots, you can just buy to identical PCIe dual-head Radeon/GeForce and use those. That is definitely the neatest option.
