Is that a dial-up or broadband account, and what kind of modem? Was this the original problem, or a new one since the reinstall? What message(s) are on the BSODs?

I'd blame modem/drivers before PSU.

I'd plugged in their usb printer and usb mouse, which is different to
what I'd had at home whilst testing, I guess.

Unless they also have a USB modem, that's unlikely to be an issue.
