Dave, I'd have preferred you to reply to the group instead of sending me
email. Google for the "freezer trick". If you place the drive in an
airtight bag and put it in the freezer for an hour or so then
immediately connect it to a PC, it may work for long enough for you to
get your data off.
I did this once, and it did sort of work. If you put the drive in a selaed
bag in the freezer it comes out dry. However, you need to take it out of its
bag to install it, and it then proceeds to condense out any moisture in the
air, so it's soon sopping wet. I suppose that you could putting the bag
round again once it's connected. I must admit I didn't try that and I think
it would be hard to get a good seal.
bottom (closed) end and tape it sealed with the bag good & tight around
the drive. When you take it out of the freezer don't take the bag off, just cut
a couple of slits just big enough for the power & data connectors. 2 bags of
frozen peas (one for under, one the top) keep it cool for a bit longer if you
have a lot to get off.
