How about 87 quid for:-

Mainboard: Biostar GeForce 6100 AM2
Processor: AMD Sempron 2800+
RAM: 512MB DDR2-533

Value bundle from CCL

Hope that's of some use.

I'm amazed that budget 64-bit hardware is more available
*and* cheaper than second-hand P3 / P4 / Athlon stuff.

Can you explain this to me please? The AMD Sempron 2800+, which comes bundled with the motherboard, is not 64-bit, but the board is compatible with these 64-bit CPUs: AMD Athlon 64 FX/Athlon 64 X2/Athlon 64.

Might this be a problem? I thought that for a 64-bit MBoard you needed a 64-bit CPU. Is it ok to run a 32-bit CPU on a 64-bit MBoard. Are there implications/considerations from this that a 'homebuild' novice like me might not have realized?

Sorry to be so ill-informed. Many thanks.

It is 64-bit

I take it you mean the AMD Sempron 2800+ is a 64-bit CPU?
Can I still run Win 2000 Pro on it?

Thanks.
