Accessing files from old NTFS disc..

I have an old NTFS disc and some of the directories that were owned by some
users are inaccessible.

Skipping the lectures about 'should have removed the files first', is there
an easy way to get at these files?

Google seemed to send me in circles on this and as far as I can tell, the
answer is 'no'.

It's not the end of the world if I can't get these files.
