I've just cleaned up my neighbours PC after he thought he caught 'a' virus
and lost all his desktop icons and task bar. On disinfecting it, I
discovered he had 22 seperate virus', 111 bits of spyware (not including
cookies), I had to do 110 window updates (inclduing SP2), and he had over
4GB of temp internet files. He's had the PC two years, one year on
broadband and tells me he knows nothing about computers. There was no
anti-virus, firewall, or other security software on his system. I was
shocked. I fear the guy represents the majority of the computer using
British public.
I think the worst one I've ever cleaned up had Spybot, Adaware and Norton
report just over 900 different nasties between them. This was a teenagers
PC, needless to say.
