Sooo .. what sorta spec CPU (I'm mainly an AMD man) / graphics card
would I need to go to see a 'very noticeable' improvement please (on

existing box?

You'll get approaching double the frame rate by just getting an
overclockable nVidia 6600GT (which I seem to be recommending a lot
lately!).

Oh, ok (and yes I spotted) ;-) The only problem being I believe it's
a PCIe card and this K7VT4A+ 1.0x (AGP) mobo? Is there a direct equiv
in AGP to the PCIe model (or doesn't it work like that)?

I upgraded my Athlon Barton 2500+/1gig/ati9600 to a 6600GT, and got
that level of improvement. I'd been very happy with the 9600 (128meg)
before, but I broke it while removing a hard drive clumsily.

Doh, don't you hate it when that happens .. like my mate who was
helping his mate by fitting a big fancy CPU cooler for him. In doing
so dropped the mobo on the corner of the case, gouging a couple of the
very fine tracks off .. ;-( 'Luckily' I still have a very fine
soldering iron, a big magnifier and steady hands .. . ;-)

Unfortunately I don't have that rig any more so can't give details for
those games. But I can tell you that moving from that Athlon2500+ mobo
to dual HT Xeons at 3.4GHz with 1.5gig ram made sod-all difference to
the frame rate.

Hmm, an important point and my biggest worry ;-(

Soo, what would offer a significant improvement over the Sapphire
6600/ 256 / AGP please, or is it like memory, AGP is getting
'expensive' so not worth following that track and go PCIe (new MOBO
etc) ??

All the best ..
