No you don't. Just install it as per normal and wave the Win98 CD at it when it asks.

The XP disk does not boot. It never did, I ran Install from Win98 the last time.

Weird, because it certainly should boot. Is this a real official Micro$oft CD? Does the hardware pass your basic memtest86 checks (or won't it boot from a memtest86 CD either?)
