Anyone using an Opteron 165 SK939 as a desktop processor?

Any upgrade will be an improvement over my old Duron 1.3, and over the
next 2-3 months I plan to upgrade Mobo (move standard stuff like network
and sound onboard), CPU, ram and graphics card. I have a decent sized
case, and loads of HDDs+a 133IDE controller card I plan to keep.

I know it is an old CPU now (relatively), but how does it compare to the
lower end X2 Athlon 64s? And yes I know that socket 939 is already
obselete, but atleast for us mere mortals who don't rebuild every week
anymore, it means the prices will drop like a brick, and for a few
months, availability of parts to make the build will still be excellent.

I rebuilt the missus's machine earlier in the year with an Athlon X2
3200+, bu shee needed new HDDs so I will have a little more budget for
CPU and Ram. Was considering an Opteron 165 over an X2 3800+ and 2 gig
of ram instead of 1. Was considering matching that to a decent specced
N-force4 mobo.

I do a fair bit of home video re-encoding, and playing with audio (just
fun), and some 3d gaming.

What is everyones opinion of the best budget AMD processor? Something
that isn't in the FX price range, but won't be completly grinding to a
halt in the next 2 years.
