Upgrade advice - Socket 939

I've currently got an Athlon XP3200+ running in an nForce2 motherboard
with 1 gig of Crucial DDR400 memory and a GeForce 6600GT AGP.
I want to upgrade and thought I would pick up an end-of-line Socket 939
based CPU and board bundle before stocks are exhausted. Not interested
in leading/bleeding edge.
Was thinking of the following: Abit AV8 and Athlon 64 X2 4400. This,
costing £300 all in from Ebuyer, would suit my needs, allowing me to re-
use my graphics card, memory and PCI cards.
The processor's expensive at 250 quid but the Athlon 64 single-core
4000+ is only 15 quid cheaper, so I might as well go for the dual-core
one.
Any thoughts?
