I have a problem I've not seen mentioned. After mucking about with my
homebuild computer, I now find that it won't start by my simply pressing
the start button on the front. All it does is to get to a certain point
in the boot sequence (before firing up the monitor) and then freeze. But
if I turn off the power (either at the back of the computer case or by
holding down the start button), I can then push the start button after
3-5 seconds and it starts and boots properly.
Any thoughts? It sounds as though it ought to be something to do with
the CMOS settings, but I can't see anything unusual.
TIA
Hugh
I had this a while back and cured it bay replacing the PSU.
Darryl.
My first reaction too. The PSU can't cope with the instant demands the boot
sequence makes from cold when everything fires up at once, when you try
again immediately afterwards there is residual charge remaining in the
circuits to not cause the hang.
Hope that makes sense as on reading that back I don't seem to have explained
it very clearly, I'm not an electronics bod but I'm sure there'll be one
along presently.
