A note re castors and tower PC cases...
o PC tower cases are a) quite narrow b) high centre of gravity
---- so stability is not one of their strong points
o Swivel castors have a mounting-pin offset from the castor-axle
---- so wheels swivel to self-align with any direction of travel
Stability depends on the floor contact area...
o Feet -- all 4 feet are wide apart
---- floor contact area = large
---- case is stable
o Swivel castors -- all 4 castors swivelled to point inwards
---- floor contact area = very narrow
---- case is unstable (push on side, case falls by rotating over castors)
o Swivel castors -- all 4 castors swivelled to point outwards
---- floor contact area = very large
---- case is stable (push on side, case moves in direction of push)
Realise swivel castors on narrow cases can be a problem :-)
Fix...
o Move the mounting point of castors outside the case sides
o Typically via a flat bar extending out from the case sides
Commonly done with many oil filled electric radiator castors.
Basically you don't want the line of C-of-G moving outside the floor
contact area too easily - otherwise the case falls over vs moves.
