i'm having some trouble finding a suitable 4 port kvm switch to buy.

They're such useful pieces of kit that it's surprising that they're not
better-known and easier to find.

- Must be reliable e.g. not a Belkin KVM. (many of theirs perhaps their
more complex ones, have received bad reports).

Belkin are a big manufacturer and most of their stuff works reasonably well
considering the price ... though, of course, you can usually get better kit
for more money. Every manufacturer produces duff kit once in a while,
though, and Belkin seem to have bit of a name for it (especially round
here).

My Belkin OmniCube 4-Port KVM switch is very good, but it's an obsolete
model and I have heard less than flattering things said about some of the
newer ones.

- I don't want both Ps2 and USB if it's expensive. Ps2 alone is
fine. Perhaps USB alone is fine if it's cheap.

Fair enough. I can't imagine why people would want to attach keyboards and
mouses via USB when PCs have perfectly good PS/2 ports ... though if you
wanted to switch between a PC and a Mac things would be different.

- Should not receive power from ps2 (or usb) ports.

Sensible choice. KVM switches should be able to power the keyboard and
mouse when there's no powered-up PC connected at all.

- Ideally should have all ports on one side Otherwise, with the large
KVM cables, things get very very messy. .

Many have all the PC and monitor connections on the back, but the keyboard
and mouse connections on the front. Annoying.

- I want a hotkey I like, e.g. scroll,scroll,num

That's just what my Belkin does ...

And another criteria. Price. I don't really want to spend more than
£70 on this!!

Hmm. You might be lucky!

Have a look at http://www.kvmswitchdirect.co.uk/ -- they have a good range.

Not all of the models there are over your budget, though most are, even
excluding cables ...

Cheers,
Daniel.
