Hi all,
I want to upgrade my three year old PC (HP Pavilion a171.uk) to be able
to edit videos. Initially I just want to move/edit some VHS recordings
onto DVD, but once I get started I guess I'll get more ambitious. I'd
like some advice on what I need to upgrade please.
I have.....
256Mb of Ram with enough room to expand up to 2 Gbyte.
Do so.
80Gb HD, but I have just added a USB connected 300Gbyte unit.
You will need the larger disk. Why not try swapping them around if
that's possible?
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX420 with 64Mb (AGP4x) - should I get a card with VIVO
or a separate capture card?
You might want to stick with the one you have until twin cards are
cheaper and then get a new motherboard to allow that
15" LCD Monitor (HP Pavilion f50s). Inbuilt speakers, but I've bypassed
those onto cheap pair of Logitech speakers
Some say that the old fashioned CRTs are better for some things. I have
no experience. Again I'd stick with what you have until getting a very
large screen is economically viable.
Is there anything else I need?
Lots of patience.
