Re: 8 disk array PSU requirements

I have two arrays, each has 8 Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 drives.
Each array currently has it's own 300w AT power supply - it's not enough
and batches of 4 drives must be manually plugged in at power on to
stagger the spin-up, otherwise the psu will go into over-current mode
and shut down.
The conservative rule is to allow 2.5-3A on the 12V line per drive, so
for that lot you'd need 20A+. Any decent modern 350W supply should
provide that. As the power is only required at spin-up, I wouldn't
personally bother going for high-end supplies.
