i have just upgraded to an elan-vittal semi passive 450 watt psu for
totally silent operation. this means my 18 month old 400 watt silentX
(whisper quiet) psu (20 pin connector) is not needed anymore.

i am building a system for a friend and would like to donate this
silentx 400watt to his system. we have already acquired a nice antec
case, going to be pillaging his existing old dell system for a pentium
4 2.8ghz cpu, 512 + 256MB memory and the 80 gig hard disc. also to go
there would be a 2 speed dvdrw and i will throw in a matrox g550 agp
card. i know that the case has a 120mm fan pre attached. other than
this there would only be the cpu fan.

i do not think our power requirements are that great.
i am looking for a nice and reliable motherboard for him. this is
quite to be a very quiet system that would not be used for gaming at
all, howeverm he does like to burn dvd films or convert them into
other formats for easy transport between two residences. he is not a
gamer.

ebuyer are selling some asus socket 478 boards for £25 plus vat but
they require 24 pin psu connector. would it be safe to use a adaptor
to use the 20 pin psu into the 24 pin connector?

the motherboard is below -

Gotta say that despite it being an Asus board, which are my manufacturer of
choice, it doesn't look that attractive a board. I strongly believe that
Intel chipsets are the best choice for Intel CPUs.

Having said that I've just trawled through my list of suppliers to offer an
alternative and can see that S478 boards are nearly extinct, I should grab
it while you can as there doesn't seem to be much of a choice now.

Should be fine with the adapter.
