Just built a mate a computer, all new stuff, even sent it back and had
replacements.
The CPU is a P4 3.2, the motherboard is a Asus P5WD2, 1gb ram, a seagae
300gb hdd, windows XP pro, etc.
The only old bit in it is a creative 5.1 soundcard, which is part of
the problem...
I hope you replaced the power supply for one around 500Watts and didn't just
put all the new stuff into his old case? That's a problem a lot of
"experts" make. They try running a fancy system off some old 200w power
supply.
It's either the power supply, a setting in Windows/BIOS or the sound card.
What tests did you do to establish it was a fault with the parts you bought?
I would use onboard sound instead if it has it.
If your headphones are working in the soundcard and the speakers don't, then
plug the speakers into the headphone socket. That will show if it is the
sound card speaker output.
The other thing you might have missed is the sound card drivers, you DO need
to install them before that particular sound card will work, even if Windows
says it knows it.
Go to the website and grab any utility programs. Make sure if you have it
set as say 5.1 surround sound that you're using the correct outputs!
Another common mistake. My card changes the output sockets depending on
whether its simple stereo speakers, 5.1 or 7.1.
I bet your mate is made up with you!
