This is what I have done so far. The machine is 9% new, the only old
bit is the creative soundcard which runs the live surround speakers.
This card works fine in the old machine, and any other machine I put it
into. The power supply is a 550W Thermaltake unit, but does the same
thing if I put a 500W standard off the shelf thing in it.

I have onboard sound, which also does not work, regardless of when it
is turned on or off in the bios, or if the creative soundcard is
present. I have gone to the point of re-formatting the drive (even put
a new HDD in it) and taking the card out in case it was a driver issue,
aparently no such luck.

If the speakers are connected and I try to do anything I get no sound,
no errors, nothing, just no sound. The soundcard is loaded in the
system as far as I can see, directx finds no problems, and the system
finds no problems. Same if the onboard sound is turned on, and if the
card is in or out of the machine.

As a note, I have reset the bios and flashed it to the latest version
and nothing has changed.

The headphones do not give out sound... unless, I go to the creative
labs utility. If I do a speaker test, I hear nothing. I disconnect
the speakers and plug the headphones into the speaker port on the
soundcard (or the onboard one), and I get nothing when I do a speaker
test. If I do a headphone test and the headphones are plugged into the
speaker port, I hear the test. If I do a headphone test and the
speakers are plugged into the speaker port, I hear the test. Under no
other circumstances do I hear anything.

When I try to use the onboard sound I get nothing at all, as the
creative software tells me the card isnt present (when the card is out)
or when it is in, I hear it through the device in the speaker output on
the card, not through the onboard sound (when I run the onboard tests,
I always have something in the speaker output on the soundcard (when
present) so I can tell where it comes out.

Usually I would have suspected a faulty motherboard, but I have had it
replaced, and it does the same thing. I am not using any windows
drivers, I have the drivers for the soundcard, and the drivers for the
motherboard.

You're probably as confused as I am, but anything I havent tried I will
do, I want it out of my hair and onto the other backlog of things.
