I found a error message the other day on a pc, saying something like
this: Windows could not start because the following file is missing
or corrupt - NTOSKRNL.EXE
So, I tried to reload windows, but it got as far as loading the files
for installation, and the usual "REBOOT in 30 seconds etc" when it
rebooted, it no longer found the hard drive! I went in the recovery
console and entered fixboot.. nothing.. I again went into the
recovery console and entered FIXMBR.... nothing...I again went
through the process again, just in case I missed something during the
installation process, but again, after the "REBOOT in 30 seconds etc"
nothing, windows didn't find the hard drive, although the BIOS found
it with no problem. I had to use KILLDISK to low level the hard
drive to get rid of anything that interfered with the installation
process. It now works fine, after using KILLDISK, windows loaded up
XP with no problems at all, which makes me wonder - I wonder if it
was a Virus that caused it, and which one, corrupts the NTOSKRNL.exe
file, and doesn't allow you to reload Windows??
The reason I think it was a virus was the fact that I shut down AVG
while running disk defragmenter.. I wonder if a virus crept in while
disk defragmenter was running??
Anyone know of such a virus??

boot.ini was prob corrupted by a virus or such like, i recommend using NOD
32, had a similar problem a while back with win2k and nod 32 sorted it
without having to re-load windows
