Re: Cheap case, and Translation quiz

That atleast makes a lot of sense.
(I adjusted the size of the jpeg down to 50k, 750 was a tad excessive and not
doing my bandwidth a lot of good)

As for the *English* it seems to be saying:
<Please read the product instructions carefully before you use, and do
not use for any purpose other than that mentioned in the instructions.>

I could add that the 'instuctions' consisted of a slip of paper about 3" x 1.5"
written entirely in chinese.

They seem to think English-speaking users are somewhat perverse. ;)

English is a difficult language. Lots of words with the same pronounciation,
but different spellings. Lots of words with the same pronounciation, exactly
the same spelling, and different meanings depending on context, etc.

(like 'pair' (two of a kind), 'pare' (reduce), 'pear' (fruit) or the nine
different meanings of the word 'take' in the compact OED)

Their Portuguese translator is much better than their English one.
Probably a native of Macao. ;)

This explains a lot. It is very easy to believe, as a native english speaker
(with german experience, plus a bit of dutch/irish/french and the tiniest bit of
pali), that english, the so-called universal language, is the first on the list
of translations, and that other european languages would follow from there, but
of course, history, especially considering that it is portuguese rather than
spanish (shows how much I know the difference, despite having portuguese relatives).

I think I'll stick to FORTRAN, I knew where I was then... ;-)
