Is this any good for protecting 2 PCs from surges / spikes and enabling a
tidy shutdown after a power failure?
http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~104704~WW~/Belkin%20Superior%20Series%20UPS%20500VA%20with%20USB%20&%20Serial%20Interface.htm
sku=104704 if the link gets broken.
Does it provide continuous protection, or does it switch the PC over
quickly when the power fails?
Thanks,
Andy
I bought a cheap UPS around this range, slightly higher capacity actually,
for my gaming PC. P4 2.8, 2x hd, dvd, dvdrw, Radeon X850, 400W PSU, 17" tft,
water cooling pump, a modest system by most standards these days I would
have thought. The UPS was very poor, runtime was minutes and recharge time
was long.
I replaced it with an APC Back-UPS CS 650 and it's excellent, runs
everything including 2x external hds with a runtime of about 15 mins on
average at a load of about 70%.
I have a 4 year old APC Smart UPS 700 with it's original battery, that runs
2x PCs fairly comfortably. P4 3Ghz Extreme, 2gb ram, 4x big hds, dvd, dvdrw,
560W PSU, high capacity water cooling, Radeon 9800 pro. The other PC a P4
2ghz, 2gb ram, dvdrw, air cooled, 350W psu. 15" tft. The PSU copes with both
at a max load of around 80%.
Buy a decent one, it'll last you longer and be more useful to you in the
long run. Have you checked whether it has a replaceable battery? Some don't.
