Interesting, hadn't really thought about Uli. Will give it a look but
i see from your next post that might not be a good idea.

You can ignore that follow-up really, it only concerns the idea of upgrading the 939 board to take the forthcoming M2 chip for which I believe no mobo is yet on sale. On the face of it, it makes the ASRock board relatively future proof compared to all the other 939 boards out there, but on seeing the enormous daughterboard involved I couldn't help feeling qualms about it. But that doesn't affect the viability of the 939dual as a regular 939 board which seems to include every kind of feature you could want and has had good reviews. At only £42 this is the board I've decided to get to upgrade my own Win98 system.

The only fly in the ointment is that the AGP is 1.5v only whereas my card is 3.3v. However I don't know of any current mobo which supports 3.3v so I'm just going to have to get a new graphics card. Either that or revert to my even older PCI graphics card!

Wow! What a post. That'll keep me busy reading this evening. Thanks. I'm
definitely going to check out the mobo you're going to use. I was a
little bit put off re. asrock when I found out that it Asrock is a
budget outfit of Asus. Is the quality going to be ok? Anyway, please
post here when you get it all up and running :-)

On the subject of USB 2.0 support under win98SE -- or rather the lack
thereof -- I have found some useful info and also a download!

IF your new mobo supports USB 2.0 (virtually all do), there is definite
hope to get win98SE working with full USB 2.0 support! Courtesy of a
third-party download from OrangeWare.

It's discussed and can be found here:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=fb9c8005fcc0b25da20831ac093531cd&showtopic=69192

for ONE particular chipset, but can be found on opendrivers for other
chipsets. Filename: USB2W9XME009.zip. The zip contains:

\ousb2.inf
\ousb2hub.sys
\ousbehci.sys

The 'o' is for Orangeware and these files replace the M$ ones used for
USB 1.0

Link is worth reading if only for the con trick of one well-known mobo
manufacturer (search in link for "it is a fake" without inverted commas,
and you'll see what I mean.)

Seems that because of licensing reasons, some chipset manufacturers -
and hence mobo manufacturers - are not providing drivers for USB 2.0.
Thus the umpteen million win98SE users say to themselves, Well I'd
better upgrade (ahem) to XP. But that might not be necessary after all.
