I wonder if anyone can help out here. I'm trying to figure out what barebones system to buy/make and have got stuck on the motherboard. Most new motherboards, it seems, have drivers that will not work in win98se.

I need to build a new PC which will run both win98se and another OS (either XP or linux, haven't decided yet). As far as computing power goes it doesn't have to be state of the art, 2G or above will probably do.

Other requirements/questions:

AGP support (not sure whether pci-express will work with win98se(?)
IDE hard disk (not bothered about SATA)
room for expansion

I just installed a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939.

I am using it with XP and Mandrive 2006.

Looking at their site, I see they have drivers for Win98 for the onboard sound, chipset and ethernet, as well as their BIOS utility and USB 2.0.

This is a good nForce 3 chipset board with an AGP slot instead of a PCI-E slot. It has 5 PCI slots and 8 channel audio (you can buy the optional bracket for a few quid). The BIOS upgrade utility works well.

Worth a look anyway.

Martin, doesn't look as if IDE (i.e. inc. hard disk drive) would work with win98se. :-(
