Replaced PSU but PC still wouldnt start until I shorted the poweron
lines together and touched them to the case: joining poweron wires by
themselves didnt work.
PC started up and is working fine.
Can anyone tell me why the connection to the case is needed?
If not what is wrong here?
Note the PSU was not bolted in case.
ATX power switch works by taking the PS_ON line to 0V (ground).
One of the two wires is PS_ON, the other is ground. These symptoms indicate
that the ground wire is damaged.
To test, work out which wire to the power switch is the PS_ON line and
ground it without involving the other wire. If that works, you have your
answer.
Re: What is this thing? ... the lefthand wire goes off into the bowels of the mh. ...breaker, i have a 70 amp version i fitted for my main power feed to the house circuits ... luckily i labeled every wire as i put them in, but i have noticed i dont always do that when i'm adding a circuit later on, especialy if i do them on the road, 2 years ago i ripped the absorbtion fridge out as it didnt work in 30 degree weather and fitted a 12 volt compressor fridge freezer in it's place, by the time i'd enlarged the hole and fixed it in, i just ran the new wires accross the van and connected it up, i was doing the job in a big DIY store carpark, kept sending my GF in for screws and brackets, saw blades etc, so they happily let me do the work there. ...
