I'm not sure why you don't tell him to sort it out himself, it doesn't
really have anything to do with you if he messes with it after he bought it.
Just walk away and point him in the direction of PC World or something.
He can use any CD/DVD of Windows he likes. The sticker on the side probably
refers to the pre-installed copy specific to that computer. And the backup
system on the hard drive. It simplifies installation and installs drivers
specific to that PC. If your daft friend has tried updating oe installed a
pirate copy at later date then it will not work as he found.
he shouldn't have needed to reinstall Windows anyway.
If you want to get involved and get endless phonecalls each time he can't be
bothered to learn how to do something, you can download Windows from various
places.
