Take a look at:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm
If you've never gone throught the services on your pc you'll probably find
at least a few that start automatically and can be disabled or set to a
manual start.
For example, Print Spooler is not required on a PC with no printer. The
Wireless Zero Configuration is no use on a PC with no wireless network. Has
your PC got an Uninteruptable Power Supply? Do you use the Task Scheduler?
What about XP's built in CD Burning - do you use that? Secondary Logon?
The list is endless!!
Some of these services can be real resource hogs.
Yet you can simply tweak their startup settings and be rid of many of them.
Martin.
