My computer has accumulated an awful lot of dust since I set it up. I know there are canisters of compressed air that one can use to blow the dust away. I am loathe to use dusters because of the possibility of static. Just wondering is it alright to use a vacuum cleaner on the insides of your PC? Without actually touching the components inside, obviously.
Everyone says 'no, because of the static', however in the damp English climate I have never had a problem doing so. You can find horror stories about static generated by the plastic nozzles on air cans too (The difference between an air canister and a vacuum cleaner is pretty minimal IMO). I use a small brush head on a Dyson when I do it .. however I mostly don't bother unless the dust is extremely thick.
If you are really paranoid find a cleaner with a metal nozzle and earth it to the chassis.
