Yes I believe that the dust have now settled for the AMD 64 systems. But
it wasn't always the case. I remember from newsgroup discussions that there
were some teething problems with early motherboards for AMD 64 systems.
But now everything is well and good, and there are no reliability reasons
for not building an AMD 64 system. I got a lot of flack more than a year
ago by AMD enthusiasts in another group for building with a P4 Northwood,
but so far there have been no problems. Whatever performance difference
there may or may not be, it doesn't matter one iota. The PC does the job.
