Well, I've read up on the chip and it's labour intensive problems. If
SVP have done the same, they must have a masochistic desire for a bad
reputation.

The 250GB drive I tried in the enclosure was new. It got corrupted and
the WD utils later showed that the HD had an unrecoverable error.
Whether this error existed before the drive's encounter with the
PL3507 chip I can't be sure.

I quite enjoy the quest for functionality but I don't think it's a
good idea to encourage the suppliers in the belief that they can vend
dross like this because I've got nothing better to do than spend days
searching for fixes.
