Re: PCI Versions

I've just tried to fit a USB2/Firewire PCI card into my computer and found
that the card wouldn't fit. The box says that card is compliant with PCI
specification 2.2, so I guess I've probably got a motherboard with an older
PCI specification. I'd been unaware that there were different types of PCI.
The website I bought the card from just had it listed as a PCI card, there
was no mention of what version.
I'm wondering what specifications most other cards that're now being
manufactured are made to. Will I be able to get a USB2/Firewire card
anywhere that fits my motherboard?
I think PCI slots are physically all the same, at least in normal
desktop machines. The variants refer to electrical and software issues.

Do you have a URL showing this card?
What machine are you trying to put it into? There have been other
expansion slot standards (ISA, EISA, MCA) is it possible you have an
older machine with these slots? (Sorry to ask if you are aware of this,
but strnager things have happened.)
