In Windows ME there are two independent backups of the registry that can
be restored.

The System Restore accessed from Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools
is the one that most people know about and seems to be the one that
causes most problems, not working.

The first time the Windows ME boots successfully, each day, it backs up
its registry. There are four copies maintained. This is totally
independent of the System Tools backup. To restore to one of these four
backups, you can run from Windows or the Emergency Boot Disk (EBD), she
does have one?

Boot from the EBD. When the command prompt appears, type "scanreg
/restore". You will be offered a choice of files to restore from,
select the file and the restore will take place and the system reboots.

>From within windows Start>Run and type "Scanreg /restore" and enter.
The system will ask you to confirm and will warn you that it will re-
boot. You are offered a choice of files to restore. Select the file
and the system will re-boot into DOS to perform the restore.
