An image whether made by Acronis or any other software is not bootable
and requires to be 'restored' to make it useable. Only a clone is
bootable without going through a 'restore' stage.

The original question was software to create a 'bootable recovery
dvd'. That, to me, appeared to preclude an image. As I said in my
response Acronis, while good software, does not allow cloning or
imaging of individual partitions, it will only deal with a complete
HDD. In that respect it is falling behind other software in the same
group. While imaging or cloning of the whole drive may be suitable
for some, it is a drawback if the HDD on which the OS is installed is
divided into partitions.
