How many optical devices do you have?
Are you copying on the fly from one to another ???

You will probably have to look at your IDE configuration.
It briefly flashes on the screen when you boot up : eg

Primary Master : SM3434344
Primary Slave: abc DVD-ROM
Secondary Master : None
Secondary Slave : dddddd

If you press the Pause button write down the output and post here, along
with how you are copying stuff, (eg Source drive, destination
drive,on-the-fly etc) then you will get some useful advice.

If it scrolls by too fast and you don't get the pause button in time you can
get the information in other ways. Easiest way would be to install Belarc
Advisor and look at the output.

It also appears under the Device Manager.
