Tell you what, I'll point out one of my pet hates about Windows and you
can tell me how to fix it.

My family's PC is shared between several users, not all using the same
applications, but when one of them installs something, the icon gets
planted on everyone's desktop. If someone who doesn't want the icon
deletes it, it also disappears from the desktops of everyone who does.

So tell me, how can someone delete a shared icon from their desktop and
only their desktop, other than going through everyone's accounts, making
note of who uses it, and where it was placed, deleting it, then go
through everyone's accounts restoring it manually?

This also means they can't run the "tidy up unused desktop icons" wizard
because it'll delete icons that other people are using. But because they
keep closing the balloon, Windows decides, "Oh look, Numpty hasn't run
the unused icons wizard for X days, let's pop the balloon up," next time
they log on too.

I expect someone can tell me how to disable the wizard by editing the
registry or services.msc or something, but why can't Windows realise
that if you close the balloon it's because they don't want to run the
wizard, period? Ah, it's because Windows pops up so many balloons that
people close them without reading them, so they'd better pop up again in
case the user missed something important. Vicious circle.
