MRSA - PMWS - Norway

Pat's Note: Not only are Norway's pigs reputed to be PMWS - Circovirus
clear, but Norway has very few cases of MRSA - and those they do get are
patients returning to Norway after treatment on the British NHS.
Some extra points here:
1. Norwegian pigs may well provide the nucleus for reintroducing clean stock
into Britain and elsewhere. They should be able to demand a premium price.
2. The Norwegian experience is in complete compliance with my hypothesis
that PMWS spread in live exports from infected countries like Britain. I
have never heard of British exports of breeding stock to Norway, but I'm
ready to be corrected (although they could have been lucky and taken only
"clean" imports.)
3. Their good MRSA record suggests that some strains of MRSA arose through
excessive use of antibiotics on PMWS hit pig herds.
4. The fact that Britain's bent vets have refused to test pigs, or the FSA
test pork, suggests that they are terrified of what they will find and the
public reaction. Defra won't have missed the figures from Norway.
5. Defra will certainly have cause to regret trying to frame Norway for
introducing Foot and Mouth to Britain in 2001. A Norwegian liner vessel
plying between UK/Norway is the least likely source imaginable. Which only
goes to prove that Britain's government vets are not only bent, but thick
too.
There will be tears before bedtime, but we are now very likely to find the
true source of FMD 2001, which will, of course, turn out to be live imports
into East Anglia probably from China.
In the meantime, MRSA is the more urgent matter.
When my Norwegian friend, who is both a scientist and journalist, and is
looking after my website, gets better, I will get thtm on the case.

Norwegian Pig Production Trotting Along Nicely
NORWAY - Last year 297 000 tonnes of meat from domestic animal production
were approved for the market in Norway. According to Statistics Norway this
accounts to an increase of 4 000 tonnes from the year before.
Pork accounted for 40 per cent of the total meat production in 2007, while
beef and poultry accounted for 29 and 24 per cent respectively. Compared
with 2006, the quantities of pork and poultry increased, while the quantity
of beef and mutton declined.
From 2006 to 2007, the production of meat from poultry increased by 12 percent. Since 1997, the production has more than doubled, from 33 400 tonnes
in 1997 to 70 000 tonnes in 2007.
