Hi, I am a Radio Engineer who is involved with Wireless CCTV.
I have designed a free standing bollard, about a metre tall, painted
green to blend in with hedges, weatherproof with a side access door
with a small round hole, sealed by a polycarbonate window, and
looking through the window is a colour professional wetherproof black
bullet camera that is powered by 12 volts and is directly connected to
a video transmitter that transmits a video signal about a kilometre on
2.4Ghz.
The received signal is decoded on a Receiver that can be directly
linked to your TV or video recorder and you can pull up the picture on
any tuned channel on your TV. Alternatively I can configure 4 channels
and you can have a cheap quad unit that will give you four pictures on
the TV or full size of any one picture.
I call the unit Silent Sentry and in the bottom of the unit I have
installed a 12 volt car battery that will power the Camera and
Transmitter for ten days then it needs swopping out or charging.
I developed this unit because a Farmer near me has people coming down
his drive and parking under his trees late at night on a regular
basis.
I would like to know from this Group what else these cameras could be
used for (calving pens?), what is the general feeling about powering
it by battery that has to be changed and do you think there is a
requirement for something like this on the farm?
I'd be impressed if you could get a good reliable signal over a
kilometer.
Ten days is very good, as a decent size electric fence needs charging
every week ish.
Garages, workshops and storage facilities could also benefit on our
sites. We currently have hardwired systems and it's very expensive
over any distances.
Linked to a decent HDD is a must (maybe a PVR) and must be Hi res,
colour CCD is minimum.
There are other advantages to battery - mobility, depending on the design
of
the bollard and alternative power sources. We always used batteries to
power
fencing controllers.
( I could also use such a system to keep an eye on bent SVS vets and their
followers crawling about in my ditches. Can you supply a water cannon as
an
optional extra?)
Filled with custard? lol
wallowing in it.
