If we can dig miles underground for oil, why cant we do it for heat!
Imagine if we could pipe that energy. That would reduce global warming
somewhat.
mostly because it is too expensive.
So is heat and energy to the consumer, not to mention wasted energy
into the atmosphere, and likely cost of global warming.
Hardly. The geothermal energy would be moved from where it is
safely contained [1], into the atmosphere where it will
contribute to global warming.
Don't forget that global warming is a phenomenon of the surface
and atmosphere of the earth. The vast majority of the earth is
utterly unaffected.
Here we are, concerned about too much heat from the Sun getting
through the atmosphere, and you are suggesting warming the
atmosphere from geothermal sources. This is not a good idea.
You rather miss the point. Global warming is not caused by warming of
the atmosphere by human activity, but, is thought to be caused by the
increased insulation of an atmosphere with a greater CO2 content. If
geothermal energy could be used to replace fossil fuel, clearly that
would reduce CO2 levels.,
[1] The heat flow from the interior to the surface is only
1/20,000 as great as the energy received from the Sun.

Quite. So bringing a little of that heat up slightly faster will make
negligible direct impact on warming.
