Trying to get blame apportioned correctly in the hands of the processors has
been almost impossible.
The producers are blamed at all times and that despite the extremely low
levels of salmonellas that can harm humans in our eggs.

Now - other sorts of S. that can harm chickens - thats a different kettle of
fish and thats why there is vaccination -- its a poultry health issue.
There are no exciting
pictures to be shown on TV.

Except every time its mentioned eggs and chickens are shown, despite the
fact that they are not the only source of S poisoning in humans.

The difference is that the egg industry worked out a scheme to improve their
standing with the general public as well as solve their own in-house
problems. It is called the Lion Mark.

The fact that food poisoning had already rapidly declined, when everyone got
reminded how to handle food correctly and the processors got a much quieter
rap on the knuckles, years before the Lion Mark came into being is usually
over looked
