We-eeeellDitto ten acres.....
I have this steep bank of 22ac.
Heifer-proof fencing, water.
Going for sheep grazing for a nominal charge ....
Next door 3500ac contractor-farmer just been offered 400ac grass from
oct->march FOC (nearly) by local dairy farmer. He has 3000 (sheep, ewes?
not sure).
Was popular around here for a while, two problems, one is that the
sheep are inclined to get caught in the paddock fencing, the other is
that the same paddock fencing is generally all the fencing there is,
and the whole grazing area requires some sort of temperory fencing
while the sheep are there. Anyone taking such an offer would want to
get it understood that the temp. fencing is going to be removed at the
end of the term, or would have to be paid for. Another problem is that
the lesee can eject you at a moments notice.. Christmas week looking
for somewhere to graze 500 ewes is not an enticing prospect. Grazing
by sheep of highly fertile land (which most dairy farms are) is good
for the land and the grass, less to be killed off and form an
undigestable mass if there is a heavy frost.
