The Webster Hoax

Pending a proper investigation, I intend to refer to the recent fake claims
by Jim Webster to be Cumbrian President of the Country Land and Business
Association, as "The Webster Hoax."

It is a politer and kinder designation, but will not be allowed to cloud the
serious consequences of his antics.

It can go into the recent traumatic history of British livestock farming
alongside the Waugh and Bushmeat Fabrications to which, obviously, it is
linked.

Jim, quite obviously, was not alone in perpetrating this convoluted deceit.
He had a number of people offering direct assistance and others keeping
silent even though they must either have suspected or knew that he was not
what he purported to be.

Even if they have not expelled him already, one can see that the CLA will
have to do so next week, and I imagine that they will be anxious to reassure
both the victims, and the CLA's financial backers that they have taken firm
action to deal with an embarrassing scandal.

It will not be a matter than can easily be consigned to the filing cabinet
in the office store, but the impact can be minimised.

It is, of course, a holiday weekend and although there may have been
meetings and phone calls already, on Tuesday the CLA and possibly other
farming organisations are going to have to find out how many of their
officials and members are involved, and get them removed very quickly to
restore confidence.

I imagine they will be cross-checking the membership of the "Sunday Times"
famous "politburo" with their membership lists and talking to the Farmers
Guardian and other media.

Defra may well be involved. They do have a record of being up to their neck
in every disaster. That business at the RPA suggests they are capable of
getting mixed up with some very peculiar people.

Jim's strange hobbies and associations, with what the Americans claim are
cults, will also have to be examined. It is quite obvious that he associates
both on and off line with others some of who are involved in both these and
farming organisations.

It will not escape anyone that the motives behind these role playing games
are deception writ large. It is likely that common membership may lead them
quickly to others who may be running other similar hoaxes and deceptions as
yet unknown.

Time is short before the investigatory wheels will start rolling and if
anyone feels the common-sense of resigning from any of their posts, the time
to do this is today.

If anyone wishes to disassociate themselves from this hoax, drop me an
email. I will keep it private and will take it into account in any of my
discussions with the parties trying to grapple with what is a very nasty and
unfortunate business.

Goodness knows how much mileage those opposed to livestock farming in any
guise will make of the hoax. Jim has gone out of his way for many years to
deliberately antagonise them.

Anyway, I will do my very best to persuade them that it is in their best
interests to limit themselves to written complaints to the organisations and
media involved - and pacific polite postings here. They don't need to do
more.

I'm already talking to senior livestock vets in private (not Dr. Mike
Meredith) about this and other matters.

Anyway, I will keep available today, to deal with any repercussions.
