Re: Global warming sea rises to affect YOU?

Nonetheless a good thing global warming is only projected to produce
half a metre rise by the best simulations, as distinct from those of
the scaremongers.

I wouldn't be too sure if I were you.

Having googled for sea level rises I came to the conclusion that most
of what
could be found on the net was nonsense. A lot of old wives tales based
on calculations which simply did not pan out when I tried my own
approximations. This site from the BBC is part of a set of pages which
appear to be well researched
and based on reasonable computer modeling scenarios.

I'm unimpressed...

"Although ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica could be affected by
warming temperatures, it isn't thought that they will melt significantly
enough to contribute to sea level rises. "

Evidence here is changing very fast.

"If they melt over the coming one thousand years, though, due to
increased temperatures, oceans could increase in depth by a number of
metres. Land glaciers will continue to melt over the coming century
which will increase the level of the seas."

"A number of meters":, this is accurately known so why not say so?

"The IPCC have stated increases for the 2080's of from 9cm to 48cm in
the 'Low Emissions Scenarios'. This rises to 16cm to 69cm in the 'High
Emissions Scenarios'."

We will see...
